Dear friends and colleagues,
We are pleased to present our quarterly edition of news and updates from the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions.
First and foremost, we invite you to read the ICARS Annual Report for 2021 which presents an accessible summary of ICARS’ key achievements across our four strategic pillars: testing solutions, translating evidence, advocacy and capacity building. In the run up to launching our annual report for 2021, we valued the chance to take stock of our progress and channel our reflections into developing our strategy for 2022-2026. The revised strategy, recently approved by our Board of Directors, will be launching in the coming months and we look forward to sharing it with you in the next newsletter edition.
Our research project portfolio continues to grow and mature, in April we launched two new projects in Tanzania, and celebrated JPIAMR’s launch of 19 new One Health intervention and transmission projects, some of which are co-funded by ICARS. Furthermore, following the launch of a joint RFP with IDRC at the start of the year, a project is now underway to develop guidance for integrating a gender lens in AMR research projects.
Aside from launching new solutions, it has also been great to see our existing projects progress, catch up on our recent trip to Vietnam, and stay tuned for future announcements about potential future projects in Laos, Zimbabwe, and Benin that are currently under co-development.
As you know, partnership is one of ICARS' core principles and it gives us great pleasure to welcome Georgia and India as ICARS Mission Partners. This formal agreement recognises their alignment with our vision and mission, commitment to tackle AMR in their countries, and opens the door to future collaborative efforts bolstered by valuable in-kind support.
As our output grows, so does our team and we are pleased to introduce Kristina Osbjerg to the Science Team as a Veterinary Advisor, with more positions being filled in the coming weeks. In addition, the World Bank have appointed Martien Van Nieukoop, Global Director, Agriculture and Global Food Practice as an Observor to the Board of Directors and we had the pleasure of welcoming him at the 10th of June Board meeting.
