We are thrilled to share our latest newsletter, highlighting our ongoing efforts and milestones in the global mitigation of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This quarter has been pivotal, marked by significant collaborations, events, and advancements in AMR research, advocacy, and partnerships.
🌎 At the forefront of our global engagement, ICARS participated in multiple events surrounding the UN General Assembly’s High-Level Meeting on AMR in New York. ICARS invited many representatives from Low- and Middle-Income Countries to speak on panels, and advocated for sustainable, country-owned and country-driven solutions tailored to the specific needs of LMICs.
💡 On the funding front, ICARS has partnered with the UK’s Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to address the intersections of gender, equity, and climate change within AMR mitigation. This partnership, which includes $2.3 million in funding, will support innovative research from 2024 to 2026.
🤝 Furthermore, ICARS continues to expand its global footprint through partnerships, including welcoming Brazil and Malawi as Mission Partners, launching a project in Ghana, and scoping agri-food sector opportunities in Bangladesh.
📝 ICARS has also launched a request for proposals to develop a comprehensive guide to ensure the sustainable impact of AMR solutions across human, animal and environmental health sectors.
📢 Additionally, ICARS contributed to several high-profile events, including the ReAct Africa and South Centre AMR Conference, the World AMR Congress, the G20 Health Working Group, and the World One Health Congress. These platforms allowed us to share our insights, learn from global experts, and strengthen partnerships to address the pressing threat of AMR.

Brazil has become ICARS' first Mission Partner in Latin America, reinforcing the country’s commitment to mitigating AMR both in the region and globally.
Malawi has joined ICARS as a Mission Partner, following the co-development of a project that aims to improve the management of urinary tract infections (UTIs) and bloodstream infections (BSIs). Findings will guide the development of effective AMS guidelines.
