2025 Year in review

ICARS 2025 Year in review

We are excited to share the ICARS 2025 Year in Review report, capturing a year defined by country-led solutions, strengthened partnerships, and measurable progress against antimicrobial resistance. The report includes an overview of the ICARS-supported project portfolio, key results from projects completed in 2025, case studies showcasing the ICARS model in action, as well as reflections from diverse partners engaged with ICARS.

Partnerships

ICARS joins Team Europe Initiative to strengthen sustainable health security through One Health initiatives in Africa

ICARS is pleased to announce its new role as an implementation partner in the Team Europe Initiative for Africa. Through this partnership, ICARS will work alongside leading global and African institutions to strengthen Africa’s capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to AMR across human, animal, and environmental health sectors.

ICARS sign Memorandum of Understanding with the East, Central and Southern African Health Community

In February, the East, Central and Southern African Health Community (ECSA-HC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ICARS to collaborate to accelerate evidence-based solutions for AMR. The signing took place at the closing of the AMR Pre-Conference Meeting in Eswatini.

High-level delegation from Bangladesh visits ICARS headquarters

In January, delegates from Bangladesh and Denmark visited ICARS to discuss ICARS-supported projects in Bangladesh and the opportunities for future engagement in the country’s AMR space.

ICARS attends the African Union Member States’ Inaugural Fungal Disease Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

From 2-4 March, ICARS participated in Africa’s first summit dedicated to fungal diseases, hosted by Africa CDC and the Global Action Fund for Fungal Infections.

Innovation updates

The C-CAMP – ICARS One Health AMR Challenge 2025 identifies seven awarded innovations for AMR across the One Health spectrum

C-CAMP, with support from ICARS, has announced seven awarded applicants for the inaugural edition of the C-CAMP One Health AMR Challenge 2025. The challenge was launched in July 2025 and received about 100 high-quality applications from innovators and startup companies across India.

Reflections from the ICARS-supported Antibiogo project as Médecins Sans Frontières scales up expansion of the app

An independent evaluation by the EUCAST Development Laboratory supported by ICARS found that the free Antibiogo app is a highly accurate, easy-to-use tool with strong potential to help non-expert laboratory staff produce reliable antimicrobial susceptibility testing results in resource-limited settings.
