On 5th-6th September 2024, experts gathered at the World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Congress to share ideas and develop initiatives to address AMR. ICARS’
Acting Director of Science, Annick Lenglet, attended the conference and appeared on a panel about aligning global efforts to address Antimicrobial Resistance across Low-, Middle-, and High-income countries.
The panel session focused on solutions to improve access to antimicrobials, strengthen stewardship, diversify financing, and foster cross-sector collaboration. Annick emphasised the need for a multi-pronged approach to addressing AMR in healthcare settings, including antibiotic stewardship, infection prevention and control, and access to affordable and reliable point-of-care and microbiological diagnostics. She used the ICARS-supported project in Georgia, which aims to optimise the use of antibiotics in surgical antibiotic prophylaxis, as an example.
We thank the World AMR Congress organisers for facilitating this dialogue and look forward to these issues being addressed at the upcoming UNGA High-Level Meeting on AMR later this month.
