Dr. Joseph Yamweka Chizimu is the National Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Coordinator and Focal Point at the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), leading the multisectoral coordination of Zambia’s One Health AMR agenda. A Medical Doctor with an MPH and a PhD in Infectious Diseases, he previously served as District Health Director under the Ministry of Health, where he gained substantial experience in health systems management, service delivery, and community health programming.
He has championed national and regional efforts in AMR surveillance, antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention and control, and evidence-based policy development. Dr. Chizimu chairs several national AMR Technical Working Groups and collaborates widely with government ministries and international partners. With several AMR-related publications and a strong commitment to capacity building, he is dedicated to translating evidence into real-world action to protect human, animal, and environmental health.
