At the World One Health Congress 2026, ICARS will join researchers, policymakers and practitioners from around the world in Lisbon, Portugal, from 4-7 September.
The Congress brings together the One Health community to share research, explore emerging approaches and strengthen connections across human, animal and environment health sectors. With dedicated tracks on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the science-policy interface, it provides an important space to consider how evidence can inform practical action on complex one health challenges.
ICARS will contribute to the programme through a science-policy interface session and three poster presentations, sharing insights from work across different countries and sectors.
Bringing evidence into action
Sunday Ochai, Head of One Health at ICARS, will present in the science-policy interface session on Saturday afternoon titled:
From governance analysis to practice: Integrating the environmental dimension into national One Health AMR strategies
His presentation will include findings on interventions to mitigate the environmental spread of AMR in Tanzania, highlighting the importance of considering environmental pathways when developing and implementing national One Health AMR strategies.
ICARS colleagues will also present three posters:
- Tailoring innovations for antimicrobial resistance mitigation across sectors in low- and middle-income countries, Jonathan Mayito, Science Advisor, will share work emerging from ICARS’ partnership with C-CAMP to support the transition of late-stage AMR innovations to field testing.
- One Health integrated surveillance of AMR and AMU: From fragmentation to integration, Sunday Ochai will present work on strengthening integrated surveillance of AMR and antimicrobial use (AMU), supporting a more connected approach to understanding and responding to AMR.
- Integrating gender and equity into AMR research: Findings from six countries, Sarah von Humboldt-Scotland, Science Officer, will share findings from six countries on integrating gender and equity considerations into AMR research.
Together, these contributions reflect ICARS’ focus on generating and applying evidence that supports locally relevant solutions to AMR across sectors and settings.
Connect with ICARS in Lisbon
The World One Health Congress provides an opportunity to connect researchers, policymakers and practitioners working across disciplines and sectors, and to share experiences that can help strengthen One Health action.
If you are attending the Congress, we would be pleased to connect. Look out for ICARS colleagues throughout the programme and during the poster presentation sessions on Saturday and Sunday from 17:30-19:00.
We look forward to exchanging ideas, learning from colleagues and strengthening collaboration across the One Health community in Lisbon.
