ICARS is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Joseph Yamweka Chizimu, National Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Coordinator and Focal Point at the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), to its Board of Directors. Speaking about his appointment, Dr Chizimu said:
“I am joining the ICARS Board because evidence-driven solutions are essential for tackling antimicrobial resistance, especially in low- and middle-income countries. I look forward to strengthening One Health AMR interventions and ensuring that research translates into real benefits for communities. I am motivated to contribute to a global effort that turns AMR knowledge into tangible impact.”

At ZNPHI, Dr Chizimu leads the multisectoral coordination of Zambia’s One Health AMR agenda. A Medical Doctor with an MPH and a PhD in Infectious Diseases, he previously served as District Health Director under the Ministry of Health, where he gained substantial experience in health systems management, service delivery, and community health programming.
Dr Chizimu is our first Board Member representing an ICARS low- and middle-income country Mission Partner. Zambia was the first country to join ICARS as a Mission Partner, acting as a valued collaborator in advancing and advocating for AMR mitigation regionally and globally.
