ICARS is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Shobha Shetty, Global Director for Agriculture and Food at the World Bank, to its Board of Directors. Speaking about her appointment, Dr. Shetty said:
“Serving on the ICARS Board represents a unique opportunity to bridge development finance with antimicrobial resistance solutions, particularly in agricultural systems where World Bank investments intersect with AMR challenges.”
At the World Bank, Dr. Shetty leads the institution’s global work to help countries confront rising hunger and malnutrition, respond to the climate and biodiversity crises, and unlock better jobs through innovation and agribusiness investments. In this capacity, she directs the Bank’s strategy, partnerships, and operations to build food systems that are more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive.
Dr. Henrik Wegener, ICARS’ Board Chair, welcomed Dr. Shobha Shetty to ICARS’ Board, saying:
“Dr Shobha Shetty brings a wealth of expertise and insight to the Board, drawn from her extensive work across food systems resilience, sustainable agriculture, and nutrition. I look forward to our collaboration as we strategically guide ICARS towards achieving its ambitious objectives.”
Reflecting on ICARS’ mission, Dr. Shetty stated:
“What I value most about ICARS is its commitment to co-developing solutions with countries rather than imposing external frameworks. This partnership model is exactly what we need to address AMR at scale and ensure impact where it is most needed.”
Dr. Shetty will attend her first Board of Directors meeting on 22 September 2025.
