The Bellagio Group for Accelerating AMR Action, an international coalition of senior experts, policymakers, and leaders from global health, development, economics, and related fields focused on accelerating action against antimicrobial resistance (AMR), met in April 2024 to develop the ambitious but achievable 1–10–100 unifying goals to accelerate global action on AMR. Inspired by high-profile global targets such as the Paris Agreement, UNAIDS’ 90–90–90 goals, and the Sustainable Development Goals, these aims are designed to galvanize political commitment, guide investment, and sustain long-term action.
The goals propose: 1 Health, uniting human, animal, environmental, and agrifood sectors through a One Health approach; 10 million lives saved by 2040 through prevention and appropriate treatment of infections while preserving antimicrobial effectiveness; and 100% sustainable access to effective antimicrobials, ensuring availability, affordability, prudent use, and continued innovation. Compared with existing technical targets, the 1–10–100 framework emphasizes prevention, multisectoral collaboration, health equity, innovation, and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals. Together, these goals aim to protect lives and livelihoods now while safeguarding antimicrobial effectiveness for the future.
