A One Health framework for global and local stewardship across the antimicrobial lifecycle
This paper presents a comprehensive One Health stewardship framework addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) across humans, animals, plants, and the environment. Recognising AMR as a complex global challenge with impacts on health, food security and economies, the authors outline stewardship responsibilities throughout the six stages of the antimicrobial lifecycle: research and development, production, registration and market authorisation, selection and supply, prudent use, and disposal. By promoting stewardship of innovation, access, use and disposal at every level—from local to global—the framework aims to preserve antimicrobial efficacy, prevent infections, and protect ecosystems.
