Vaccines and antimicrobial resistance: from science to policy—summary and outcomes

In April 2024, the Royal Society hosted a two-day Science+ meeting examining how vaccines can help mitigate antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Taking a One Health approach, international experts presented across both human and veterinary medicine. Day 1 addressed the scientific dimensions of the AMR threat and vaccines as a countermeasure, while Day 2 focused on the policy implications needed to advance vaccine development and ensure equitable global deployment. The meeting concluded with a panel discussion looking ahead to the UN High-Level Meeting on AMR in September 2024. This article, co-authored by ICARS Senior Science Advisor Erica Westwood, serves as the closing contribution to a special issue of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B, summarising key outcomes, recommendations, and conclusions from the proceedings.
