The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), in collaboration with the International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS) and the EUCAST Development Laboratory, has completed a multi-year project to establish a Centre of Excellence for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (AST) in Nairobi, Kenya.
By combining technical expertise, regional collaboration, and targeted training, the project has laid a strong foundation for strengthening AST capacity across Africa, supporting more accurate antimicrobial resistance surveillance and enabling better-informed public and animal health responses.
The Centre now serves as a regional hub, supporting countries across Africa in conducting AST for pathogens from humans, livestock, and aquaculture.
This Key Findings Report shares highlights from the project’s various achievements and impact.
