Mitigating the spread of antimicrobials and resistant microbes through treatment of manure
This presentation, originally shared at the 2022 ReAct Africa and South Centre Conference, outlines a project addressing the spread of antimicrobials and resistant microbes in Tanzania, driven in part by increased demand for animal protein and income.
The project plans to introduce a low-cost manure processing technology aimed at reducing antimicrobial contamination. Intended outcomes include improved behaviour and skills of commercial poultry farmers in processing and safe use of poultry manure. Furthermore, the project aims to increase demand for processed manure among farmers and to build capacity to scale up the use of effective manure processing technologies.
